A délutáni napsütést élvezte otthona előtt üldögélve Brenda Dixon szerdán, amikor két férfi állt meg a háza előtt egy aranyszínű autóban, és mindenféle figyelmeztetés nélkül tüzet nyitottak rá. "Látni lehetett, ahogy a hüvelyek földet érnek. Arra gondoltam, hogy úristen, meg fogok halni?" - idézte fel a történeteket a tolókocsiban élő, lupusban szenvedő nő a Los Angeles Timesnak.
Csodával határos módon csupán Dixon lába sérült meg: a két férfi 45 másodperc alatt 36 golyót lőtt ki, majd ugyanolyan hirtelen távoztak, mint amilyen hirtelen érkeztek. Se Dixon, se a rendőrség nem tudja, hogy kik és miért kezdtek el lövöldözni a nőre: egyelőre az autót, és az egyik fegyvert találták meg.

Two men in a gold car stopped, aimed handguns and unloaded 37 rounds, police say.
"You could see the casings hitting the ground. I said, 'God, am I going to die?' and that's when the bullets hit my legs," Dixon says.
"I was scared to look down," Dixon says.
The shooting occurred Wednesday afternoon; Dixon's feet were wounded.
The gunfire lasted about 45 seconds and the men were gone. A day later Brenda is still haunted by the unknown; she doesn't know why she was targeted, wheelchair bound because of lupus and arthritis.
Police are baffled about the motive for the shooting; Dixon said she is too.
Sacramento County sheriff's deputies are searching for the shooters. The car they drove has been located; so has one of the guns believed to have been used in the shooting.
Dixon said that when the shooting occurred, she looked at the gunman. "Somebody going to kill me, they goin' to have to look me in the face to do it," Dixon said.
